TSMC says its initial 3nm mass production is returning “good yields”. The company expects the 3nm semiconductor technology to create products with a market value of $1.5 trillion within the next five years. Samsung has already begun its 3nm mass production. But it is reportedly struggling with yield rates and doesn’t plan to start making 3nm smartphone processors until next year. Its Taiwanese rival didn’t specify when it will churn out smartphone chipsets using its most advanced process technology....
The N4P process node is also significantly more power-efficient than the N5. TSMC claims a 22 percent improvement in power efficiency. The latest enhancement further introduces a six percent improvement in transistor density. TSMC says N4P will enable easier migration of 5nm-based products. Customers will be able to deliver faster and more power-efficient successors to their N5 products and maximize their investment. According to the company, the first batch of N4P-based products will hit the market in the second half of 2022....
