CNBC reported it this morning, and a SEC filing confirmed it just a little while later. The company said in the filing, “as negotiations progress we have increased our focus on the possibility of spinning our studio business, creating a number of financial and strategic benefits. In that regard, we are continuing productive negotiations with prospective strategic and financial partners on both sides of our business.” Lionsgate was planning to auction off a 20% stake in the spun-off STARZ....

T-Mobile sounds very sour in its official statement, blaming partner carriers for not acting promptly. The company says it provided its partners “plenty of time and resources” to take care of their customers. But “some of those partners haven’t followed through on their responsibility to help their customers through this shift. So, we’re stepping up on their behalf.” The statement doesn’t name a carrier but there’s a strong hint of it being a dig at Dish Network....

T-Mobile’s Extended Range 5G signal relies on the 600MHz spectrum. You won’t get super-fast speeds on this spectrum but the coverage is quite broad. Meanwhile, its Ultra Capacity 5G taps into the mid-band 2.5GHz spectrum. This spectrum is more about speeds than coverage. It’s still available more widely than the mmWave 5G spectrum that AT&T and Verizon have deployed their super-fast 5G networks on. T-Mobile acquired the mid-band 2.5GHz spectrum via the Sprint merger....

This isn’t very surprising considering how fast the carrier has been proceeding with its Sprint network shutdown efforts since the closure of the $26 billion purchase last year. It has reportedly already moved a third of Sprint customers to its network. The company expects to move the remaining of them before the aforementioned June 2022 deadline. Telegram has long been on the rise, thanks in large part to its user-friendly features. For example, Telegram allows users to use the app on multiple devices at the same time. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has promised this feature, though it’s yet to roll out. The app also offered end-to-end encryption long before WhatsApp joined the fray. Keeping this in mind, it’s not surprising that Telegram is reaching new heights. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov says (via) that the app only had around 500 million active users at the beginning of 2021....
